The Laboratory for Multimedia of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (LMMFE), University of Ljubljana (UL) hosted the 2nd meeting of the WBnet project. Between April 16 and 18, in addition to the regular meetings, the LMMFE staff prepared 5 trainings in the field of multimedia and cybersecurity and 2 thematic tours for the project partners.
The meeting started with the presentation of Prof. Dr. Matevž Pogačnik and Assist. Klemen Pečnik, who introduced the host institution (UL FE) and continued with a presentation on the development of ICT and multimedia study programs in the future, especially emphasizing the importance and role of short study programs in the form of microcredits.
The afternoon program included a progress report of the course of the project, presented by Prof. Dr. Ljiljana Pecić, the coordinator of the WBnet project, and representatives of the individual institutions.
The event continued with a presentation of the laboratories at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, with a focus on multimedia content and equipment. In addition to the general architecture and multimedia equipment, the partners also visited the Radiation and Optics Laboratory (LSO), where Dr. Aljaž Blatnik presented some interesting experiments, in particular the technology of “hiding aircraft” from radars, measuring the radiation pattern of the antenna and the communication station for communication with the EU satellite, which is installed on the roof of the faculty. In the second part of the interesting journey through FE, Dr. Gregor Geršak presented the Laboratory of Metrology and Quality (LMK). The participants were able to see some interesting experiments in the field of measurement in the multimedia field and beyond and were fascinated by the temperature standard and the unique systems for calibration, verification, and certification of measuring thermal imaging cameras.
The activities of the second project day began with an informative training on hybrid multimedia systems and advanced IP architecture to support them, presented by Anže Zadravec and Rok Žurbi from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The participants learned about the advantages of the most advanced IP architectures and especially hybrid multimedia systems, which enable centralized control and management of audio-video resources and a high degree of flexibility in the placement of devices in rooms (lecture halls, meeting rooms, laboratories …).
Mr Bojan Radulović from the company CISCO Slovenia continued with the field of cyber security, focusing on the current pressing challenges in the field.
In the afternoon meetings of the Steering Committee, the Quality Assurance Board, and Dissemination Board took place.
The third day was dedicated exclusively to multimedia training. Assistants Klemen Pečnik and Žana Juvan first introduced the participants to the field of extended reality (XR), the technology and alternative ways of using XR technologies and the vision of their use in education. This was followed by an insight into virtual tours as well as practical examples developed and produced within LMMFE, and simple tools for creating virtual tours. In the second part the field of video production was presented from the basics of visual perception and the creation of moving images to the most important devices and basic equipment for simple production, the presentation of basic rules and practical instructions in the field of video production.
We would like to thank the project partners for their participation in the meeting in Ljubljana and look forward to seeing them again in Madrid.
